Busby's Bar - Royal Botanic Gardens

A hidden oasis in a landmark location

Creation

Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney asked us to assist in creating an amazing installation that reflected the history of the gardens and celebrated their 200th Birthday year.

Aside from sharing the history, the aim was to encourage visitorship to the precinct and ensure that the Royal Botanic Gardens becomes a well known destination during Vivid Sydney.

Evolution

Our team spent time with the Gardens learning more about the history and the importance of the 200th birthday celebrations.

During this we came across the story of James Busby who was responsible for planting the first wine grapes in the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney which then started the Australian wine industry as we know it. We took inspiration from this key story and others then reflected this through an engaging design with the main bar as the centrepiece.

Our converted container was transformed into the ultimate garden bar, that was a warm and inviting space while subtle elements tied in the history of the wine vines and the main sponsor Tyrell’s wines. An impressive food offering was available thanks to UPG & Trippas White which ensured guests could tuck into some tasty morsels while enjoying the atmosphere.

The stand out items were the 200th birthday LED creation, the lighting of the impressive tree’s in the area and the large Busby’s letters which bought the space to life and attracted guests from far and wide.

Continuation

The client was incredibly happy with the coverage the bar received, even appearing in a live weather cross on Sunrise in the lead up to Vivid Sydney opening.

Unprecedented numbers of guests visited the site and shared their story, including many amazing photos on social media. The Royal Botanic Gardens was one of the most visited sites of the 2016 Vivid Sydney festival and it’s sure to increase year on year.
