Breakfast on Bondi

A highlight of Sydney's food calender

Fairfax Media engaged us to produce the inaugural Breakfast on Bondi, following on from the successful Breakfast on the Bridge. The event was to be a highlight of the food festival in October and be a draw card for all of Sydney to celebrate great views, and experience sensational food.

To welcome the rising of the sun and the dawn of a new day, we enlisted traditional didgeridoo players to perform at the water’s edge, before making their way through the crowd to the steps of the main promenade. Here, a forty-piece orchestra, who performed a stunning hour-long concert beside the beach lead by master composer Max Lambert, joined them.

As Bondi came alive and warm sunlight broke through the mist, the sounds of the orchestra could be heard across the surf and down the beach, while crowds swam, practiced yoga and tucked into a classic Sydney breakfast.

We approached local restaurants and cafes, and invited them to serve their interpretation of a Bondi breakfast, which were received to acclaim from over 6000 attendees. Bill Granger then welcomed the crowd, shared his vision of the perfect Sydney breakfast, before teaming up with local lifesaver Hayden to engage with the crowd and even review their breakfast picnics.

From the local yoga group to the surfers who watched from their boards, this new experience opened Bondi’s eyes to a new way of enjoying our iconic beach. From the grassy green of Breakfast on the Bridge to the stunning sand of Bondi, this event built to become the highlight of the Sydney food calendar.
