KickStart for Optus

The Challenge

Optus brings their people together each May to “kickstart” their financial year. The event has to deliver key messages from each business unit whilst creating a cohesive environment that will leave a lasting impact and energise their frontline and internal people for the year ahead. In other words, the attendees have a lot of information to absorb and they expect to be entertained and inspired every step of the way.

Fourth Wall was awarded the momentous project after a competitive tender process combining four producing teams to work on bringing Optus’s hallmark event to life.

The Creation

Fourth Wall was tasked to creatively conceptualise and deliver four different plenaries, two exhibitions, two award shows and an after party. Over three days Fourth Wall dominated ICC Sydney, activating 10 spaces for approximately 1,800 Optus employees from across Australia.

The focus for Optus was simple - encourage their employees to go further for their customers. We embodied this value and challenged ourselves to go further with each component of the event. 

Each major sponsor, including Samsung, Oppo Cisco, Blackberry and Huawei received a personalised level of care and we worked with them to develop their exhibition stands to ensure it reflected the going further message and that it was engaging and entertaining for attendees. 

We brought in Bruce Kimbrell, Disney’s customer experience expert, to deliver a compelling CX presentation, which was an inspirational highlight for many. Guest experience was key and from the reusable water bottles at registration with infused water stations scattered throughout the exhibition to being disposable coffee cup free by only providing washable cups at the coffee carts, reinforcing Optus’s commitment to sustainable conferencing, to using ICC in a unique way to reinvent spaces and creating easy flow between them.

We also redefined the standard for Optus award shows by combining bespoke and immersive screen content with world-class entertainment.

The Outcome

KickStart 2019 resulted in the Optus team feeling inspired by their achievements from the last year, aligned with the direction of the various units, and empowered to continue to go further for their customers.

The success and enjoyment was clear by how long guests remained in the experience and talking about how the would go further!
