APEC CEO Summit - Papua New Guinea

The Challenge

APEC Business Advisory Council engaged Fourth Wall to transform two P&O Cruise Ships, to host the APEC CEO Summit in Port Moresby. The high-profile two-day event comprised several panel sessions with notable CEOs, as well as internationally live-broadcast addresses from world leaders including the Vice President of the United States, The Honorable Mike Pence; The President of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Xi Jinping; the Prime Minister of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev and the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir bin Mohamad.

Alongside the CEO Summit, we were challenged to create several activations for APEC’s corporate sponsors to engage C-suite delegates during their time on board.

The Creation

To host the two-day CEO Summit, Fourth Wall transformed the ship’s main theatre to create a sophisticated broadcast environment for the distinguished guests and world-class speakers.

Drawing inspiration from the PNG APEC 2018 logo and from Papua New Guinea’s national bird, The Raggiana Bird-of-Paradise, Fourth Wall created a set-design encompassing a series of curved custom-printed panels that provided an intimate environment for delegates to engage with speakers throughout the summit, while being camera ready from all angles.

A 10m-wide lightbox created the central backdrop for speakers, placing the custom APEC CEO Summit brand both physically and metaphorically at the centre of all discussions throughout the event. The central lightbox was flanked by a curved wall on either side, providing hidden side of stage viewing areas to accommodate several VIP speakers and their large delegations throughout the show. Over the Summit Fourth Wall was integral at running the main theatre space and delivering the varying requirements and customs for each nationality.

To compliment the two-day summit, Fourth Wall also worked with ABAC’s corporate partner, PwC, to create the  “PwC Knowledge Cafe” - a place for delegates to network and unwind during breakouts. Integrating the look and feel of the summit, a series of moveable pods were constructed that ensured versatility for delegates to create private meetings pods according to their numbers.

The Outcome

The somewhat unconventional cruise ship setting was immaculately transformed to host some of the world’s most distinguished leaders, politicians and CEOs throughout the two-day event. Hundreds of esteemed delegates engaged in the most pressing economic issues affecting the Asia-Pacific region. Fourth Wall’s expertise in live-show delivery was critical to ensuring a seamless experience for speakers and delegates alike.
