Google Retail Experience
The Challenge
When Google bought out the Pixel phone with Telstra and JB-HiFi as retail partners, they knew that training sales staff on the nuances and key differences of this fantastic new phone had to be different and, well.... Googly!
The training program needed to occur as close to launch as possible, be rolled out nationally, suit teams that worked all hours including shift work, and create engagement with the phone that was significant enough to flow on to consumers.
The Creation
The Australian Google Retail team worked with Fourth Wall to develop an Escape Room Training experience, which subsequently toured around Australia for a period of almost five weeks.
We created two Escape Rooms side-by-side, where up to five people at a time would use the Pixel phone to solve various clues, and make their way through the different rooms. Navigation led them through locks, maps, musical clues, ultraviolet dark light references, and even hidden walls… with each room constructed in a way that could quickly pack down into a truck and be re-erected in another state a few days later.
Upon completion of the Escape Room, guests enjoyed a Q&A session with a dedicated member of the Google team, who answered any questions and facilitated the opportunity for participants to experience the phone first-hand.
The Outcome
Feedback from the retailers who experienced the Escape Room indicated that in most instances it was the best training they’d ever had! In fact, Mystery Shoppers commented in their feedback that the retailers raved about the training and the on-site tour team, and they received constant requests for friends and family to be allowed to return with them.
