Schools Spectacular

The Challenge

Fourth Wall were engaged by the NSW Department of Education’s Arts Unit, to provide production management services for the annual School Spectacular event.

This event was born out of an acoustic test conducted more than 30 years ago, back when the Entertainment Centre was the newest venue in Sydney.

The Creation

Logistically, this event is an enormous undertaking, as not only is it an arena show that is broadcast across Australia, but there are thousands of kids to rehearse and choreograph, as well as a full orchestra, stage band and choir to manage.

In partnership with the NSW Department of Educations' Arts Unit, Fourth Wall work closely with the show’s production team to help deliver all elements of production including operations, CAD services, OH&S, special effects and aerial acts, while also working closely with the show and broadcast production manager.

The Outcome

When the Sydney Entertainment Centre closed down, the event was moved to the Qudos Bank Arena. In 2016, the show set a new Guinness World Record as the largest variety show in history, and today the School Spectacular remains one of the world’s largest annual performance events by public schools, involving more than 600 teachers and 5,000 children from 400 schools.
